Georgia Lilley (b. 1993) is an Australian photographic artist based in Tasmania. Her analogue, autobiographical practice examines identity, temporality and becoming through the vernacular form of family archive. Her partner and four children are central subjects in this ongoing visual memoir. The births of her children, including her unexpected, unassisted birth of twins at home, are touchstones in her practice, with surrender and embodied presence integral to her photographic methodology.

At the centre of Georgia’s work is a tension between presence and absence. The loss of her father and family home as a child gave her an enduring awareness of the instability of both people and place. The photographs accumulate meaning over time, becoming a document of an ephemeral family unit.

Georgia’s photographs are grounded in the particular social and economic circumstances of her household: a blue-collar, single-income family navigating regional isolation, paid and unpaid labour and a precarious rental market. As her children grow between a succession of homes, questions of stability and impermanence become inseparable from the narrative.

Her background in theatre informs a character-driven approach to image-making, with an emphasis on long-form narrative. Georgia completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts (Theatre) at the University of Tasmania in 2017. She is a finalist for The Bridge Art Prize 2026, and received a special mention from guest judge Sian Davey in 2024 for Life Framer’s The Human Body.
